Weekly tips: Queen's Logic [02 May 2008|02:54pm]

Queens Logic (1991) has a handful of actors that I'm at least somewhat familiar with. Linda Fiorentino, John Malkovich, Joe Mantegna, Tom Waits and Jamie Lee Curtis being the ones that spring to mind right away. I'm only going to focus on two of these for now.

Lindo Fiorentino

She was in Men in Black, which gives us Will Smith (I Am Legend, I Robot, Hitch, Bad Boys, Wild Wild West, Enemy of the State, Independence Day), Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive, Batman Forever, Natural Born Killers), Rip Torn (Zoom, Bee Movie, Canadian Bacon) and Tony Shalhoub (Cars, the Spy Kids trilogy, Galaxy Quest). (Of course, Tommy Lee Jones was in JFK with Kevin Bacon, but I don't always remember that one, mostly coz I haven't seen it yet, after I see it I'll probably use it more often).

She was also in Dogma, which gives us most of the View Askew crew, such as Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Jason Lee, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Brian O'Halloran. It's also packed with legends not previously part of the Askewniverse, such as George Carlin, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Alan Rickman and Janeane Garofalo (more complete lists for all of these under the cut).

Tom Waits

Tom Waits is one of my favourite singers, and he's also been in an interesting variety of movies. The Outsiders gives us Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Diane Lane and Leif Garrett (I'm not going to do lists for these ones, I'm sure you can come up with your own). Mystery Men also gives us Ben Stiller (Zoolander, A Night at the Museum), Hank Azaria (The Simpsons Movie, Tuesdays with Morrie, Anastasia, Great Expectations, Celebrity), William H. Macy (Wild Hogs, Cellular, Spartan, Pleasantville, Air Force One, The Client), Janeane Garofalo (under the cut), as well as Greg Kinnear, Geoffrey Rush, Paul Reubens, Claire Forlani and Eddie Izzard (no lists because this post is already too long).

Even though I still haven't seen Queens Logic, it is one of my favourite final steps for playing Six Degrees because of these two actors, as I am a huge fan of Dogma, and Mystery Men is a pretty fun movie, too.

the Dogma listCollapse )

The purpose of the weekly tips is not to provide you with a list that is "complete" in any sense of the word, but to give you some ideas of connections you may not have thought of, and show you my train of thought in these things to give you an example of how you might be able to remember connections.

Season one of ljgames_au is starting to get underway. The reason I think you may be interested in this game is because *big hint that I probably shouldn't be giving away* 6 degrees of seperation will be one of the upcoming challenges.

ljgames_au is more of a game then it is a discussion community. It works just like a reality game. You will be put into one of two teams and together you will work through a variety of different challenges to win immunity and one by one you will be voted off by your fellow players until only one survives.
Unfortunately the winner doesn't actually win a million dollars, but you can get all the bragging rights you deserve :)

It is a great way to meet other people, make new friends and just have fun.

We need more players before we can get started, so read the communities userinfo for more information. I am happy to answer any questions that you have.

Note that you do NOT have to be Australian to play. It is only based in Australia. People from all over the world are welcome to play

Mods: I am sorry if this isn't allowed. If you ask me to delete it then I will do so without any debate.

Yeah, I know Tom is pretty easy, but who here has a good path for Katie Holmes?

Man, it is quiet in here.

I cant figure this out.

You know how people are always like "Six degrees of Kevin Bacon."? I dont get it! What does six degrees of seperation have to do with Kevin Bacon? Is it just an expression? Its making me crazy!

impossible names? [27 Apr 2004|07:27am]

[ mood | surprised ]

when actually playing the game, i try to avoid imdb.com and the oracle of bacon, but the oracle site is fun to click around and stuff... one of the links is Bacon Numbers, which is a chart detailng how many of the names in the database are different degrees from Kevin Bacon. for example, 1 person is 0 degrees, 1766 are 1 degree, and 141840 are 2 degrees... it goes to 7 and 8! according to this chart, 115 are 7 degrees and 61 are 8 degrees. this seems rather odd, that there are actually 176 actors that cannot be connected with Bacon in 6 degrees or less. and i can't figure out if there's a way to list them. i'm guessing that the majority of them are actors that were only in one movie, and in most cases an obscure foreign film.

getting sick of me yet? [20 Apr 2004|03:58pm]

doing some random IMDb.com clicking. decided to look up Eminem. didn't find much of interest besides 8 Mile, so from there I clicked Kim Basinger. What the heck? She was in Never Say Never Again (1983). So that connects her to Sean Connery, cool... hey, wait one freaking minute! Rowan Atkinson? Mr. Bean was in a James Bond movie? No wonder he wanted to do that Johnny English flick. I don't now if these connections will help shorten any Six Degrees paths, but I find it terribly amusing at any rate. Read more...Collapse )

question... [20 Apr 2004|01:30pm]

[ mood | curious ]

if you look at IMDb's full credits for She's Having a Baby, you see a lot of uncredited cameo appearances. if there were any completely official Six Degrees rules, do you think that these uncredited cameos might be disqualified, since they make some connections almost too easy? i mean, the first 5 names alone make a lot of paths much easier. is there a story behind this who's-who guest list? i'm seeing Ghostbusters, Cheers, musical legends, at least one sports legend, and of course, Ferris Bueller. how did this happen?

greetings! upon looking over this community's archives, it appears that there are ups and downs... the community basically dies for awhile, then a few challenges revive it. i've been torturing co-workers with this game for quite some time now, so i think i'm going to start posting my own challenges now and then, as well as share occasional degrees-related stories, in an attempt to keep the community active on a more regular basis. i know, there's tonnes of LJ communities that people try to keep active to no avail, but i'm gonna try.

First Post [02 Jan 2004|02:45pm]

After playing hours of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon driving back from Florida to Texas I thought I would look for a journal devoted to this goofy game. And guess what? I ended up here. So, I will be posting on a regular basis because I am addicted damn it.

First up: Jeff Goldblum

I can do it in 3.
